The opportunity
As our Pipeline Technician, you’ll support the Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines business, spanning more than 14,000 km from Northwestern Alberta to Northwestern Ontario. You’ll apply your mechanical and technical skills to keep our natural gas compressor stations, measurement stations, and pipeline sites running smoothly. 

 

Reporting to the Central Region Pipeline Manager, you will be a member of a dynamic, multi-skilled team that takes pride in successfully achieving safe and reliable performance of this area’s equipment. 

 

The regular work schedule will be:
Week 1 – Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is an 8-hour day
Week 2 – Monday to Thursday 9 hours / day; Friday is a Regular Day Off (RDO)

 

What you’ll do

  • Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TransCanada's safety, health, environment and risk standards
  • Perform inspections related to valve servicing, troubleshooting and repair
  • Assist with all aspects of pipeline isolation and gas handling
  • Support various tasks associated with inline inspection
  • Perform basic One Call line locates
  • Assist with all types of Line Crossings (foreign or seismic) of TransCanada Pipe Assets
  • Identify encroachment issues

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) with minimum completion of third year of trades program or two years of Technical Training from a recognized institution
  • 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Planning and organization skills with the tenacity to see tasks to complete implementation
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative in a team environment that includes shared responsibilities and independent execution of specific tasks
  • Excellent work safety record and a safe work attitude

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technologist Diploma or related Mechanical Trade Certificate
  • Experience / qualifications as a Pipefitter 
  • Proven mechanical aptitude
  • Aptitude and desire for learning new software and computer systems

 

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
  • Travel (35%) to other locations for temporary assignments, meetings, and training involving some overnight stays away from home
  • Be part of an on-call rotating schedule, and is subject to call-out for emergency response
