The opportunity

 

Our USGO VA East Area Operations team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Virginia to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Strasburg, Centreville, and the surrounding areas.


We are seeking an experienced Automation and Electrical Mechanic who has knowledge and experience in compressor station control systems and equipment. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent problem solving, communication, and decision-making skills.


The successful candidate will reside within 30 miles or 45 minutes of the Strasburg Compressor Station or Chantilly Compressor Station in order to comply with emergency response requirements.

 

Depending on the location of the successful candidate, this position may be filled in Strasburg, VA or Centreville, VA.

 

This position is represented by the United Steelworkers Local 573 and the filling of the position is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective agreement. 

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Perform tasks associated with the installation, start-up, inspection, and repair of automated and electrical systems and facilities, to include: ignition systems, automated control panels, pneumatic circuits, electrical circuits, electrical generators, switches, UPS systems, data acquisition equipment, engine sequencing and speed control equipment, EM facilities, and RTU and associated field devices
  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters
  • Keep up to date with all applicable codes, regulations, policies, and procedures and ensures Company facilities are operated in compliance of such codes
  • Investigate equipment and facility failures, make repairs, or recommend corrective action
  • Perform diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, modifying, calibrating, and replacement of control system software and components associated with equipment control, data gathering, and facility operations
  • Oversee contractors and perform electrical wiring tasks, installing tubing and conduit, fabrication of mounting devices and control panels, installation of ignition systems, programmable controllers, IUFM facilities, electronic measurement, RTU facilities, and UPS systems
  • Participate in the installation and maintenance of data networks and associated equipment
  • Instruct station personnel in basic operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, and automated systems
  • Operate computers and modems for data entry and retrieval and analysis of collected data
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to the O&M, preventative maintenance, inspection, and repair of all assigned electrical, electronic, and automated systems
  • Assist in maintaining an adequate inventory of parts and materials for assigned equipment
  • Use PC and/or hand-held device to complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Troubleshoot control networks (e.g. fiber optics, Ethernet, serial interfacing between control equipment)
  • Work in other job functions as needed and determined by management
  • Work closely with A&E Specialist and compressor station personnel
  • Other tasks as required

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in a related industry
  • Ability to understand piping operating drawings

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent technical degree
  • Experience working with electric driven compressors and turbines
  • Industrial PLC experience
  • Journeyman Electrician license
  • ISA Level 1 certification
  • Operational experience related to high-pressure gas transmission

 

This position requires candidates to

 

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
  • Be confined-space trained
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Successfully qualify for specific job tasks per DOT and Company operator qualification requirements
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures
