The opportunity

Our USGO Great Lakes/Northern Lakes team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Minnesota to support our Saint Vincent Compressor Facility.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Technician who has knowledge and experience in compressor station control systems and equipment. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem solving and communication skills.

 

What you’ll do

  • Troubleshoot AC and DC electrical circuits, generally to the board level
  • Inspect, calibrate, and maintain varied electrical and pneumatic instrumentation on natural gas compressor units, valves, pumps, air compressors, and other associated equipment used in natural gas compression
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems utilizing technical reference manuals, drawings, and other documents
  • Use specialized tools such as a Hart Communicator, Fluke, Megger, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLC hardware and associated automation components
  • Perform technical analysis to prepare recommendations for future action
  • Provide multi-skilled maintenance support to other technicians in the completion of pipeline, compressor control systems, and gas measurement activities
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
  • Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain gas-fired turbine engines, reciprocating engines and gas compressors, standby generators, pumps, low pressure and steam boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, cooler fans, valves & operators, and other associated electrical equipment used in natural gas compression
  • Manage encroachments on pipeline right-of-way
  • Use a PC and/or hand-held device to complete work orders, enter data into job plans, creates new work orders, parts procurement, etc. in SAP
  • Other tasks as required

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a related industry

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree to include courses in engine maintenance, electricity/electronics
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls
  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches and regulators
  • Industrial PLC experience
  • Operational experience related to high-pressure gas transmission
  • Minnesota State Boiler Operator license

 

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and extended workdays and/or workweeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
