The Opportunity

This position will be working with the Project teams in activities related with project controls, follow up, analysis and review of project performance during development and implementation phases of Capital Projects in Mexico. This position will be responsible for establishing appropriate levels of project controls to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget. 
This position also requires the identification and analysis of project’s financial trends to ensure proper tracking and reporting. 


  • Manage project controls tracking, reporting and processes across all Projects for the Mexico Business Unit.
  • Works with the project management, project controls and project governance teams to ensure accurate and timely corporate reporting. 
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure that project control standards are communicated and followed, with the support of the Technical Centre.
  • Perform detailed analysis of construction progress vs planned progress, associated productivities with Contractor’s resources and EPC changes impacting cost and schedule, among others and as requested by the project management team.
  • Perform detailed reviews of baseline vs schedule updates to meet project’s in-service dates as contractually committed.
  • Identification of present and future potential cost impacts in projects and provide guidance to project teams.
  • Work with the Contract Administrator to track any changes or potential changes to the project scope during its implementation, including cost and schedule impacts.
  • Assists in the validation of complex project invoices prior to approving for payment, such as EPC and procurement invoices.
  • Use of applicable software to support the project controls tracking for progress measurement, scheduling, benchmarking and cost reporting.

Minimum Qualification

  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing is required to support bilingual reporting to Sr. Leadership and able to maintain conversations with project teams.
  • Relevant experience in project controls for at least 5 to 8 years.
  • Desired experience in Oil & gas industry at least 3 - 5 years. Specific experience with pipelines and/compression would be beneficial.
  • Experience in Major Projects, or managing smaller projects simultaneously. Ideally from development stages to completion.
  • Experience with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts. 
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and the ability to manage data sets obtained from various data sources is required. Management of cost control software would be beneficial.
  • Experience with SAP is a definite asset (Project Controller profile).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate change and help others adapt to a continuously changing environment.
  • Experience in implementing, and streamlining project control systems / methodologies as well as integrating project management and accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and proven performance / results.
  • Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and develop and maintain collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and following instructions is required.
  • Ability to act independently, and propose innovation within objectives is an asset.


Preferred Qualification

Bachelor’s degree or science with relevant experience in project/cost controls, with high level of familiarity of general project management and cost controls principles.
