Your opportunity 


Our Natural Gas Team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business, and we are expanding our presence in Houston, Texas, by starting up TC Energy Marketing, a non-regulated affiliate Gas marketing business. That’s why we want to grow our venture with a high-performance team that can help us promote clean-burning natural gas production.  


You’ll be set up for success, backed by TC Energy’s highly reputable customer standing and a solid financial base in existing gas operations. Our mission is to give customers flexibility and enhanced services, while building additional value for TC Energy in managing risks and opportunities in the gas marketplace. Here’s your chance to do that. 


We want a self-starter who can roll up their sleeves to help us design and build the business from the ground up. You’ll have plenty of autonomy while also collaborating with other commercially-centric people within TC Energy Marketing. As a Quantitative Risk Analyst, you’re passionate about building your expertise in providing superior, real time analytics that quantify opportunities and weigh risks. You are nimble and execution-focused, exploring creative data solutions in line with business objectives. You’ll report to the Vice President of Non-Regulated Marketing and work with an outstanding team. 


What you’ll do 


  • Act as the in-house expert in understanding and quantifying the risk around our portfolio of physical positions, customer obligations and other commercial arrangements 
  • Work on implementing the proper data solution and framework for visibility, to help identify opportunity and for proper governance 
  • Model and report of risk metrics like VaR and other volumetric measures of customer portfolio and trading positions.  Also includes participating in the budgeting and planning process 
  • Identify the risks of new transactions and their impact on the existing risk profile and gross margin of the portfolio, including ideas around hedging opportunities 
  • Lead and manage the many data inputs such as market index prices, forward curves and determining volatility parameters 
  • Participate in the initial stages of set up and design of the new business.  Working with our IS teams and building out existing and new capability 
  • Develop stress scenarios and quantify their impact on the portfolio 
  • Maintain relationship to data vendors, cloud provider, and internal IS staff 

Minimum Qualifications 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, finance, or Engineering 
  • 10+ years of direct analyst experience in a trading environment 
  • Understands financial math including time series, option theory, and other risk / opportunity measures 
  • Extensive knowledge of data interaction or use of different data frameworks. Ex: programming language or direct database querying ability 
  • Solid experience with report building and visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, etc. 
  • Familiarity with portfolio management concepts 
  • Understands the exposure created through origination and trading 


Prefered Qualifications 


  • Familiarity with back office trading systems or ETRM system 
  • Clear understanding of natural gas supply and demand fundamentals
