The opportunity

Our US Tax team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Houston to support the property tax group.
 

The following position is available in the Property Tax group reporting to the Property Tax Manager. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the property tax group on all levels of property tax related duties which include the preparation of state / local tax returns reporting documentation / filings and participating in the analysis of taxation issues.

What you’ll do

  • Ad Valorem tax compliance reporting including preparation, review and filing of state / local tax returns
  • Represent TC Energy at formal and informal hearings with assessment officials and negotiate the valuation of assets
  • Review, audit and verify accuracy of valuation and assessment related tax documents
  • Review, interpret and analyze pertinent ad valorem tax statutes and court rulings related to TC Energy business activities
  • Assist in the forecasting and reconciliation of tax account balances
  • Assist with the electronic filing of tax documents
  • Other tasks as required
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field
  • Three (3+) plus years of related experience or accounting/finance experience
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to develop new ideas
  • Advanced skills in Excel
  • Must be adaptable and team focused
  • Ability to think critically
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethic and motivated to actively work in a team environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Up to 10% travel may be required
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Financial statement reporting a plus (preferably FERC Form 2/6 reporting experience)
  • Balance sheet reconciliation a plus
  • Tax experience would be a plus
  • SAP experience a plus
