The opportunity


Reporting to the Team Leader, Process Safety Engineering, the Process Safety Facility Asset Engineer supports the design, implementation and optimization of process operations for our US Natural Gas (USNG) pipelines. The position assists multiple facilities in maintaining system information and to ensure compliance and integrity. Excellent communication skills, knowledge of  mechanical equipment, equipment sizing and selection are required. 
This position will be located in Houston, TX. 

 

What you'll do

 

 

  • Develop and execute facility integrity program related activities including equipment criticality reviews and hazard barrier inventories 
  • Ensure process safety critical equipment data is current and classified appropriately in the Master Data database
  • Assess/size new and existing facility balance-of-plant equipment: focusing on tank, pressure vessel, and overpressure protection components 
  • Check and validate vendor equipment sizing, design and functional applicability, including third-party engineering design calculations
  • Assist Program Lead in engineering asset oversight of Overpressure Protection systems 
  • Advance replacement / obsolescence programs for aging process safety critical equipment
  • Coordinate temporary and permanent changes to process equipment and systems (i.e., management of change) for any circumstance that affects the facility’s process safety
  • Support Operations on Process Hazard analyses (e.g. HAZOP, What if, LOPA, etc.) and Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews at facilities
  • Evaluate equipment problems and contribute to root cause failure analysis investigations on failed equipment, develop action plans to eliminate repeat failures, and implement corrective actions, as necessary
  • Solicit internal/external expertise for areas outside of core technical capabilities
  • Follow and ensure compliance with TC Energy’s Practice of Engineering (POE)
  • Other tasks as required

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in a natural gas processing, chemical or petrochemical facility. Petroleum Engineering degrees with applicable gas processing experience will be considered.
  • Understands concepts of asset life cycle management, system reliability and gas compression operation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge on overpressure protection and control concepts including relief valve sizing and set point determination
  • Proficient with Management of Change process and the evaluation practices and tools required to successfully complete a change
  • Capable of supporting process incident root-cause analyses and addressing corrective actions
  • Experience with PHA/HAZOP and PSSR processes
  • Knowledge and understanding of integrity principles and their application in a process facility.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, pressure equipment data sheets, and other equipment integrity related documents.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license

 

This position requires candidates to

 

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
