The opportunity
With TC Energy's growth in meeting the demands for energy across North America, we are now seeking a Human Resources Consultant (HRC) to partner with clients in business unit and/or corporate client groups. 

 

In delivering human resource management consulting expertise to the business, the HR Consultant works in partnering with our centers of excellence as well as with business leaders to ensure achievement of business goals and objectives. This position is part of a geographically dispersed HR team in the U.S., Canada and Mexico who together provide HR support to clients across North America. 

 

What you’ll do

  • Assess client needs and deliver support in the areas of organizational design, resource planning / recruitment, total compensation, performance management, conflict management, leadership coaching, leadership development, team effectiveness, and change management 
  • Support clients through identification and implementation of organizational and process changes in support of operational effectiveness
  • Provide support to the onboarding of new leaders in their client area, ensuring the integration of current human resource programs, processes and practices
  • Provide coaching to leadership teams to support retention and optimize productivity
  • In partnership with HR subject matter experts in the centers of excellence; design, develop and implement tailored human resource strategies and plans that contribute to the overall success of their clients
  • Participate as an integral member of the client leadership team to ensure the people and organizational perspectives are considered in all proposed business decisions and organizational changes
  • Ensure the Manager, HR Consulting is aware of issues, potential risks, and progress by providing regular updates and feedback related to human resource services required for client groups
  • Other tasks as required 

 

Minimum qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, human resource management and/or related field
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in an HR consultant role, preferably in the energy sector
  • Previous experience working in an HR consultant role supported by HR subject matter experts is required
  • Demonstrated business acumen and internal consulting skills
  • Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
  • Working knowledge of applicable labor laws and regulations
  • Understanding of the following HR disciplines: internal consulting and leader coaching, employee relations, organizational design, building high performance teams, conflict management, performance management, learning and development and change management
  • Proven ability to balance multiple and sometimes competing priorities within tight timelines
  • Strong ability to analyze complex issues and determine the best solution or course of action to meet client needs
  • Adeptly plans, organizes and prioritizes work
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels within their client area and as a contributing member of the client leadership team
  • Highly developed communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • A self-starter, with demonstrated initiative, tenacity and flexibility
  • Able to think systemically and anticipate impacts to other groups, systems and processes 

 

Preferred qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in human resource management or any relevant field of study
  • A professional designation is desired such as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR), or Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

 

**In the performance of this role, travel of approximately 10% is required to various client locations across borders, and as such the successful candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to this effect.
