The opportunity

Our Human Resources team is evolving to meet the changing needs of our growing business. We are seeking a Human Resources Consultant who has knowledge and experience in supporting leaders to build and lead high performing teams.


In this role, the HR Consultant works in collaboration with subject matter experts within TC Energy's HR department providing HR support for clients to ensure achievement of business goals and objectives. 


What you’ll do

  • Provide senior human resource support to frontline leaders to increase leadership and organizational effectiveness
  • Assess client needs and deliver support in the areas of organizational design, resource planning / recruitment, total compensation, performance management, conflict management, leadership coaching, leadership development, team effectiveness, and change management 
  • Manage day-to-day compliance and administration of Union contracts, including but not limited to, responding to and planning around Union grievances, adhering to the strict contractual timelines, maintaining positive Union relations and providing contractually obligated reporting.
  • Support clients through identification and implementation of organizational and process changes in support of operational effectiveness
  • Provide support to the onboarding of new leaders in their client area, ensuring the integration of current human resource programs, processes and practices
  • Provide coaching to leadership teams to support retention and optimize productivity
  • In partnership with HR subject matter experts in the centers of excellence; design, develop and implement tailored human resource strategies and plans that contribute to the overall success of their clients
  • Participate as an integral member of the client leadership team to ensure the people and organizational perspectives are considered in all proposed business decisions and organizational changes
  • Collaborate with HR peers and COEs in the roll-out and implementation of enterprise wide programs, practices and training
  • Ensure the Manager of HR Consulting and Director, US Human Resources are aware of issues, potential risks, and progress by providing regular updates and feedback related to human resource services required for client groups
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum qualifications

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, organizational effectiveness or other applicable majors
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in an HR consultant role, preferably in the energy sector
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a role with exposure to, or direct responsibility for, Labor Relations
  • A professional designation is desired such as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR), or Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

Preferred qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in human resource management or any relevant field of study
  • Solid understanding of the following HR disciplines: consulting and coaching, communications, organizational design, recruitment and selection, total compensation, building high performance teams, conflict management, performance management, learning and development, and project management
  • Demonstrated business acumen and internal business partnering skills
  • Proven ability to balance multiple and competing priorities within tight timelines
  • Strong ability to analyze complex issues and determine the best solution or course of action to meet client needs
  • Able to think systemically and anticipate impacts to other groups, systems and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partner relationships and influence at all levels within their client area and as a contributing member of the client leadership team
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • A self-starter, with demonstrated initiative, tenacity and flexibility
  • Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal labor laws and regulations.

*** This position requires the successful candidate to travel  approximately 10% to various client locations, some may  across borders, and as such the successful candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to facilitate this travel.
