The opportunity 


Reporting to the Director of Measurement & Engineering Services, the Manager will be responsible for providing direction, oversight, and completion of activities for drafting services within the US Natural Gas Pipelines. This position will facilitate program ownership and maintain design system integrity and quality.

This position can also be located in Charleston, WV.

What you’ll do


  • Lead and provide strategic direction for teams directly involved with the development and maintenance of design drawings, drawing programs, engineering governance, and EDMS integrity
  • Coordinate the team to deliver program scope of work consistent with strategic initiatives across functional and regional boundaries by coordinating with Operations, Technical and Operational Services, Technical Center, Projects, and Commercial teams
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of effective drafting processes and standards to sustain and improve organizational performance and to support projects and operations
  • Ensure teams develop and implement appropriate and effective corrective and preventive actions in response to design reviews and drawing content concerns;
  • Provide direction and guidance to third party engineering and drafting service providers
  • Provide technical support to departments in the development and use of TC Energy Drawing Specifications and Procedures
  • Provide oversight, monitor for quality, develop solutions, and seek technology advancements pertaining to drawings and drawing management
  • Accountable for the development of key performance indicators to track Drafting Services progress (most importantly, leading indicators) and communication of program scorecard to stakeholders, analyze trends on program performance metrics and make recommendations to leadership on corrective actions
  • Manage resources across multiple projects and programs
  • Oversee and track the work of staff to ensure program is executed and managed in accordance with approved plans, schedules and budgets
  • Hire, mentor, and performance manage staff through leadership, motivation, counseling and training; provide developmental opportunities
  • Establish team goals, objectives, and strategies; optimize work practices and processes; perform audits and provide feedback to enhance learning and ensure compliance to standards and processes
  • Manage department budgeting and forecasting for labor and expenses
  • Coordinate drafting knowledge governed by general policies, standards, and external requirements, and make recommendations for improvement of internal practices
  • Set direction for special drafting projects and report progress to management
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum qualifications


  • Degree in Engineering Design and/or Drafting Technology preferred; other degrees will be considered based on experience
  • Minimum 10 years of applicable industry experience required, preferably in natural gas or petrochemical facility
  • Experience in a formal leadership role required
  • Knowledge of computer applications for 2D and 3D CAD engineering design such as AutoCA
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling applications and 3D scanning technology
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Understands concepts of drawing lifecycle management, system reliability/integrity and operations
  • Extensive knowledge and proven competency in engineering/design processes
  • Solid grounding in drafting tools and techniques along with competency in at least one design discipline (mechanical, civil, electrical, etc.) as a designer/drafter
  • Proven experience and extensive knowledge with document management systems
  • Problem solver with attention to detail
