The opportunity

 

TC Energy has a long and proud history of delivering projects that provide safe and reliable transportation of nearly 25% of all-natural gas delivered across North America.  These projects include everything from maintenance and modernization projects to large, multi-year capital growth programs.  Dedicated teams of professionals rely on one another to ensure that these projects are executed with a focus on safety, regulatory compliance, quality, schedule, and cost. 
Construction Managers play a significant role in driving overall project success by guiding the many internal and external teams and service providers necessary to complete the work across TC Energy’s systems in accordance with the established requirements and TC Energy’s core values.  

 

This position will report and gain experience under the direction of a Construction Manager.  The Construction Technologist will perform basic technical assignments in support of construction management for US natural gas projects.  Making routine decisions and recommendations within established guidelines and procedures under the supervision of a construction manager.  Exercise some judgment in selecting which problem-solving methods are applicable during site construction.  Assignments will require a good understanding of the basics of construction management with applied and established skills. Job tasks and assignments are generally received and are reviewed when complete for accuracy and effectiveness of the results. May be required to make preliminary interpretations of construction related material and data including, design drawings, material data, project scope, construction schedule, etc.

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Collaborate with Company Safety Representatives to promote awareness and understanding of safety performance on construction projects.
  • Provide support to Construction Manager during project design, pre-bid meetings, and pre-job meetings, construction duration, project close-out, etc.
  • Assist the construction manager with deliverables to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor construction progress and inform the construction manager when the contractor deviates from project specifications, requirements, or schedule.
  • Help ensure site construction design changes are properly assessed, approved, red lined and that the drawings are included in the project record file.
  • Learn and provide assistance to craft inspection staff with TCE construction specifications.
  • Assist the construction manager with providing orientation and training on TCE policies and procedures for 3rd party inspector onboarding.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve site safety, project quality and construction efficiency.
  • Identify and communicate various safety, quality, schedule or other risks associated with construction to the construction manager.
  • Other tasks as required.

 

 Minimum Qualifications

 

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in construction related field.
  • The ability to manage both internal and external stakeholder expectations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer skills including ability to generate progress reports using Microsoft suite of tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, etc.)
  • Willing and able to temporarily relocate to assigned project area as required by the project (Special Assignment)
  • Capability to read design drawings to assess construction requirements.
  • Capability to apply construction principles to identify and rationalize solutions.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and challenges.
  • Basic understanding of a construction setting and basic knowledge of planning and executing construction projects.

 
Preferred Qualifications

 

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in construction related field.
  • Engineering degree or relevant technical trades certification.
  • API 1169 certification

 
This position requires candidates to:

 

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Travel regularly to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
