The opportunity

Our combination of energy infrastructure businesses is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business. We are seeking a driven Project Director who has knowledge and experience in leading project development, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and turnover to operations of a portfolio of projects in any of our businesses. 


The nature of the portfolio varies and will consist of large-scale capital projects ($1-5B), or a higher volume/program of smaller capital and maintenance projects. Projects or portfolio of projects at the Project Director level typically represent a spend in excess of $1B per year. The successful candidate will be responsible for overall delivery of the project objectives and oversee quality throughout its life cycle. The successful candidate will apply defined project management processes while managing a cross-functional team of internal and external experts to meet defined project timelines, milestones and budgets.


What you’ll do

  • Instill a project safety and quality culture with the support of TC Energy’s energy standards and governance Technical Center resources, developing project safety and quality objectives, tracking and reporting on performance, and take action to ensure safe and high-quality project delivery
  • Overall accountability and responsibility for delivering desired project outcomes
  • Develop and implement an execution strategy for the projects that optimizes performance against business objectives and ensures operational success
  • Champion solid risk management culture with emphasis on early risk identification and mitigation
  • Champion a strong opportunities management culture with emphasis on early identification and maximization of opportunities pipeline
  • Ensure project functional targets are met, in conformance with all legislated and TC Energy specifications and standards
  • Oversee the preparation of engineering, procurement and construction deliverables in accordance with TC Energy specifications, standards and precedents
  • Manage third-party contractor performance and deliverables
  • Analyze and resolve technical, commercial and operational issues with functional team members
  • Manage all aspects of project performance including tracking progress of project against milestones on an on-going basis, taking corrective action as required
  • Drive the on-going improvement of project management mindset, processes and standards
  • Lead by engagement and motivation and effectively drive and promote high performance and a culture of accountability
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and performance feedback to team members
  • Manage and facilitate communications and cooperation between multi-functional team members, resolving conflicting priorities and other team conflicts as required
  • Identify resourcing and performance issues within project team, taking corrective action when necessary
  • Represent the company in communication/negotiation with various third-party stakeholders (e.g. clients, contractors, landowners, regulators)
  • Represent the project to internal stakeholders, acting as the liaison between project management, functional managers and corporate support groups
  • Communicate project status and information to management


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management or Construction Management
  • 15+ years progressive experience in relevant roles
  • 10+ years of project management and execution experience
  • Proven track record of successfully managing projects on time and on budget
  • Experience in the leadership of large linear, multi- jurisdictional projects, preferably pipeline, or in other industries such as energy infrastructure (oil & gas, power), transportation and transmission
  • Commercial and business acumen as it relates to the budgeting, scheduling and forecasting of projects
  • Demonstrated ability to form effective business relationships with third party engineering, key suppliers, and construction companies


This position requires candidates to travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.
