The opportunity 

This opportunity is to join the newly-formed Claims and Disputes team within the Project Delivery Excellence department. This new team has a mandate to reduce claims and disputes, and associated costs and risks, on large projects through a program of proactive and reactive avoidance and mitigation measures. The team’s mandate connects to a critical strategic Corporate imperative to leveraging project execution as a competitive advantage: Deliver projects on time, on quality and on budget.  

 

The role requires a broad and flexible skill set, focused on issue spotting, trouble shooting and problem solving at a macro and micro levels. The successful candidate will be articulate, have proven relationship building skills and the ability to influence without formal authority. A passion for continuous improvement is essential.  

 

This role reports to the Manager, Claims and Disputes.  

 

What you’ll do 

  • Review project data and documentation such as schedules, reports, weather data, cost reports and more to determine trends and key findings for the identification of claims risk and mitigation opportunities 

  • Perform project claims preparation and analysis, inclusive of analysis of cost and schedule impacts and damages assessments 

  • Understand and identify Risk Allocation and contractors’ Risk Transfer behaviors and build targeted responses strategies for claims avoidance and / or claims mitigation when claims arise.  

  • Understand and identify existing TC Energy work practices and behaviors that may contribute to increased claims and work with key stakeholders to challenge and change those behaviors. 

  • Working with project Field Contract Administrators, support and trouble shoot the management and administration of contracts in accordance with the contract, SC processes and procedures and relevant company policies 

  • Compose reports demonstrating sound claims analysis, problem-solving, clear articulation of findings and unrivaled attention to detail 

  • Assimilate large volumes of varied information and be able to simplify concepts and convert highly technical information into graphics, reports and presentation for easy comprehension 

 

Minimum qualifications  

  • University degree in Engineering, Architecture, Quantifying Surveying, Supply Chain, Commerce, Economics, Accounting or related field  

  • 8-10 years of progressive relevant experience with knowledge and contract change management, claims avoidance and mitigation, analysis and resolution 

  • Excellent understanding of contract terms and conditions and various contract models  

  • Prior experience managing construction and field services contracts 

  • Thorough understanding of contracts, contract structure, terms and conditions, contract law and supplier performance 

  • Excellent understanding of oil and gas, utility and pipeline construction projects and operations, including project controls and interface  

  • Demonstrated experience to translate technical information to clearly written materials and presentation suitable for target audience 

  • Highly organized, problem-solver and ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines 

  • Experience in construction delay and productivity analysis 

  • Robust communication skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships 

 

Preferred qualifications 

  • Membership (or ability to qualify as a member) within a professional order or association  

  • Experience in Supply Chain

  • Able to communicate effectively with senior management and adapt to their schedule 

  • Demonstrated experience with MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, SAP, and Power BI
